Who I Am...

The Texas Running Center is organized for the purpose of promoting the "Running Lifestyle." We will strive to become a great resource for those starting out or looking for a group to train with for any distance, be it 800 Meters, 1500 Meters, 5K, 10K, half-marathon, marathon or beyond. Also, you'll find club members regularly participating and competing in a broad range of regional and national events. The club organizes 3 training sessions and a couple of walks per week, year round! The weekly events are held at Wimbledon Park, Arlington, Texas. (A fantastic 1 Kilometer gravel trail complete with hills, dales and curves). We welcome new and experienced runners of all ages and abilities. Whether you just started running or are a competitive runner, you'll be sure to enjoy involvement in our club. The club was founded by Joe Boyle, former distance runner who was inducted into the Harding University Athletic Hall of Fame in 1992. As a collegiate All American his mile and meet record at the Kentucky Relays stood for over 15 years. Other highlights include the 1968 Olympic Trials marathon and the 1970 Junior Olympic National Steeplechase victory. In 1987, as a Master Age group runner, Joe won the Texas Master 1500 Championship, the TAC Gulf Coast Master 1500 Championship, The Texas Southwest Masters Track and Field 1500 Championship and in 1991 competed in the Master Elite 5th Avenue Mile in New York. Last Year, 2009, as a Senior Age group runner, Joe won the Southwest Region Championship in the 200 and 800 and finished in 6th place at the Huntsman World Games in the 200 and 800. Besides running, Boyle has a Masters degree with coaching stints at the Unites States Military Academy, West Point and while there wrote and implemented the Run For Life Program for the Department of Defense. Several of the athletes he coached became All Americans. Prior to coaching at the collegiate level Joe's High School coaching produced numerous champions and championships, including the Eastern States 4 x Mile Relay High School Championship.
